History
The history of Korean Center, Inc. reflects the growth of the San Francisco Bay Area’s Korean community. As the local Korean community began to emerge, the Multi-Service Center for Koreans (MSCK) was founded in 1974 as a non-profit, community-based organization to manage the myriad needs of newly arriving Korean immigrants.
In 1984, after three years of persistence and hard work, the Multi-Service Center for Koreans obtained a new, permanent home on Post Street. The agency was renamed Korean Center, Inc. and provided services to all age groups and a diverse population including Russian refugees, Southeast Asians, and African-Americans.
In 1995, KCI established the Intercultural Institute of California (IIC), which offers Master of Arts degrees in Professional Application of Korean Studies (PAKS) and Teaching Korean as a Foreign Language (TKFL), and certificate programs in Korean Language and English as a Second Language.
